You Can
I don't have much to blog about lately (do I ever really? :-)  So, instead I will share a couple of video clips that I hope will speak to you and touch you.  I had seen a video of this beautiful story about 6 months ago and it brought me to tears then.  I'm sure most of you have seen it, but it is SO worth seeing and feeling again and again.

It is the story of a father and son, Dick and Rick Hoyt--Team Hoyt.  Rick was born 40+ years ago with cerebral palsy.  Doctors said he wouldn't ever be able to walk or talk and would live in a vegetative state.  They advised his parents to put him in an institution.  His parents said, no way, they would bring him home and raise him like any other child.  Rick is very bright.  He completely understands and communicates through a computer.  Rick and his father started running in races together when he was in high school, simply because he wanted to.  His dad was not a runner by any means, but he became one.  Dick is now 66 and Rick is 44.  Over the years, they have participated in 950 races, 60 marathons and several triathlons (six Ironmans which consist of 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking and 26 miles of running!!  UNbelievable!).  During races, Rick feels like his disability disappears.  He has had an amazing life thus far, one that transcends the limitations of his body.  Team Hoyt's motto is, "You Can."

This story, these videos speak volumes.

About the love a father has for his son.  An undenying, unconditional love that is so visible in everything he does for him.

About a love that is significantly more magnified and powerful and unfailing, on a much huger scale.  God's love for us.  Can you imagine?  Can you feel it?

About how God carries us through our lives and the trials it brings, similar to how this father carries his son.

About perseverance, never giving up, the ability to do whatever God's desires are for you.

Today was the first time I had seen this particular video/version.  If you've seen it before, please watch it again!  So awe-inspiring.  I completely bawled and was comforted by my 3-year old :-)

Here is the original video I saw several months ago that gives more of a back story.

Think about that amazing love today :-)

I love this story and all it speaks of. I remember watching it at Elston, probably around the same time you did. Either last week or the week before, Extreme Home Makeover was for a family who has a very similar story. Their first son had several development abnormalities at birth. Now, he's a college attendant, and he marches in the marching band with the help of his dad, who pushes his wheelchair in formation. These stories are amazing and inspiring and so good. Thanks for sharing. :)
