Wrestling AKA Playing Superheroes
Alex has enjoyed "wrestling" for as long as I can remember.  It was a father-son thing for the longest time, but he will try to engage just about any adult in wrestling.  When Mike and Alex do it, Alex is ALWAYS the good guy (typically Spiderman) and he picks which bad guy Mike is that time (believe me...he knows ALL of them...Dr. Octopus, Lizard Man, Electro, etc.) and then they use their respective powers.

I wrestle with Alex on occasion.  I don't know all of the villains' super powers and can't portray them correctly, nor do I really want to, so when Alex and I wrestle he is Fire Man and I am Water Girl...our powers are obvious and it works for me.  I'm going to be honest with you...secretly I really like wrestling not necessarily for the bonding time or providing endless fun for Alex.  I like wrestling because I actually get a lot of rest time while doing it.  I play dead a LOT...which means I close my eyes and rest on the pillows after he has used his powers on me in some way.  It's awesome!!!  However, as soon as I'm starting to relax with my eyes closed on the pillows, he ends up jumping on me, or whatever, but still.

Anyway, today's wrestling went in a whole other direction than usual.  We were doing our usual Fire Man/Water Girl routine, when suddenly he said something like, "Fire Man is gone.  I'm Bad Boy now." Well, Fire Man and I had really developed quite the relationship.  I was a little thrown by the change.  After we had interacted a little while, Bad Boy left the room and I heard him talking in the other room.  He returned and said that he is now Good Boy, that he told Bad Boy three things (he relayed some gibberish that he told him) and then he was giving me hugs and being sweet to me.  I loved Good Boy, but then suddenly Good Boy morphed into Bad Boy right before my eyes!!  Aah!!  A superhero with Multiple Personality Disorder--the scariest super power of all!!!  Bad Boy said that Good Boy was in his chest?  Huh?  And that he only comes out at night.  Thankfully daddy got home at that point...I was a little nervous to see what might happen next.  Actually I'm intrigued by it and impressed with Alex's imagination.  I, personally, am not all that creative and imaginative.  He gets it from his dad...they do a lot of role-playing and I know that's a good skill to have.

Anyway, I just had to share today's funny wrestling experience.

I plan to post updated pics of Lydia's garden soon, since some of you have requested to see them!!!

I am always amazed at how BIG Ethan's imagination is. He can play stuff like that for hours... even by himself :) I am all about games too where I can sneak in a nap. I finally figured out why that was a favorite game that my dad played with me. Sneaky parenting :)

So cute!

What an amazing child you have! And you had me laughing at you loving to play for the rest time, you are so, so smart.

The boys play superheros all the time! Even Mason does.. so looks like you may be in for alot more superhero play. :)

Oh, it took us just over 5 hours to get there which was shorter than map quest said it would be. The ride home was a different story though because of traffic. :( It was definitely the perfect vacation for us and one I would absolutely recommend!

See ya at the carnival.

Emily-I love your comment!! Alex often has a backpack of superhero figurines when we go places nowadays.

I feel like I'm constantly learning things he will do and enjoy. As much as I try to do sit-down type activities with him (I wish!), he just doesn't sit long enough nor have the interest in them. I'm really worried about him learning how to write!! My boy just doesn't like to sit no matter how engaging I am!! Oh, unless the tv is on....but that's another issue! I do lack in the role-playing area though, like I said. I cannot play Army Guys with Alex (one of his favorite things to do) for anything...so it's a great thing that he and Mike can do together.

Oh, and you'll do fine...just follow BearHug's lead. And be prepared to get dirty at times in the process :-)

Really, can you stop! I don't think it's possible to love that little guy anymore than I already do, guess I was wrong. Love hearing the stories, always looking for more.

That was a very cute and funny accounting of your wrestling event. Bad Boy/Good Boy - too funny!!! Love it!!

I love the stories of you and Alex. I really admire you as a fellow mom. You are always doing such wonderful, enriching activities. I think I should take notes and then re-read them as BearHug grows. This does make me laugh. And I would love it if Lindsay does start a fund to install cameras in your house. This is some funny stuff. When I first learned I was having a boy, I was a little confused as to what moms and boys do together. Color? Make crafts? I was excited but a bit baffled since I grew up with all girls in the family. Then, in the OB's office when I was about 9 mos pregnant, I saw a grandma and her grandson with a backpack. The grandson pulled out lots of superhero figurines and the grandma said, "Ok, which superhero am I again? And what's my special power?" Then, they played for quite a while with these figurines. And I had to smile because obviously that was what you did little boys... You developed super powers!

How cute! :) Thanks for sharing. I'm seriously considering donating money for you to put a camera system in your house so I can watch you cute son do these funny things. :)
